I Can Do All Things
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. | Philippians 4:13
I’m a fixer. And a doer. And sometimes I feel like I need to do all the things. That’s a lie. I always feel like I need to do all the things. And I have some hard things in my life. So when I was making this list of truths I needed to remind myself of, I put down, I can do all things through Christ.
I believe that. That I can do all things through Christ. I certainly know that I can’t do them all on my own. I’m not quite sure how people make it through life without Christ’s strength. The last two years, I would have collapsed. I can’t imagine how I would have made it through.
So if I believe it, why did I put it on my list of five truths that I need to remember?
Because I forget so easily. I start fixing and doing all the things. I try and try and then finally realize why I’m failing. Because I forgot to ask for help. I forgot to do it only in His strength.
But if you downloaded my list of five truths, you’ll notice a little caveat at the end of my truth. It doesn’t just say, I can do all things through Christ. It says, I can do all things that God has asked me to.
That was the important truth that I needed to remember. I believe that I can do all things through Christ, but the problem is, I believe I can do ALL things through Christ.
Being a fixer, a doer, I want to do all the things. I’m not making it up. If I could work 25 hours a day, I would actually love it. I love to learn and do and help. So much so that I end up exhausting myself and I can’t do what God has actually asked me to do. I find myself without the strength to do the things that He has just for me.
So this is the truth that I’m preaching to myself this week. That I can do hard things. That I can do everything God has called me to. That no matter what happens, I can do it all in His strength.
But only those things that He’s actually given me the strength to do. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Now finding that balance, that’s pretty hard for this doing-girl. I believe that when I start believing that truth, when I start living in the calling God has for me, that He will show me exactly what I have to do each day. That His will for my every day life will become clear.
I can do all things that God has asked me to.
